RED DEL VINO

JUAN AMADOR PÉREZ

At 13, Juan and his mother moved to a new employer where he began to work in the fields. Juan began driving tractors and eventually became the manager of the farm’s machinery. At 19, he married his wife Carmen and they have five daughters and a son.

With the Agrarian Land Reform, the land that he was working was transformed into a settlement, however after 3 years it was not prosperous. Juan moved his family to the Nancagua commune, where he continued to work in agriculture until the land was eligible for Agrarian Land Reform. He was awarded a plot with vineyards and a house. Juan did not have experience with vineyards so it was a new undertaking that he had to learn in order to succeed.

Today his land produces Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere grapes. Juan continues to reside in the same house and enjoys time with his 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He still works the field with his son-in-law.
