Producers and consumers are the pillars of the economy. Fair Trade certifies transactions between domestic companies and their international suppliers to ensure that farmers and workers were paid fair prices and wages, work in safe conditions, protect the environment and receive community development funds to empower and improve their communities.
Fair Trade can be considered a form of free trade which is voluntary agreement between two parties that would not take place if both parties did not believe that they were going to benefit from it.
Fair Trade also educates consumers, brings new manufacturers and retailers into the system and provides farming communities with the tools, training and resources they need to thrive as international businesspeople.
